When we were growing up, my sister had the greatest Barbie Doll house a kid could ever want. My parents were not rich, so my grandfather took the time to build it for her. Not only did it have great sentimental value, but it was a solid and functional Barbie Doll house. Unlike today’s doll houses which are either cheap plastic and too small to function as a real Barbie Doll house, or extremely expensive with too many details and fancy furniture kits for kids to really be able to play with.
At least this is what my sister and I found while trying to locate a Full Size Barbie Doll House for her own daughters. After she and I scoured the internet, eBay, and shopped around local hobby stores like Garden Ridge and Michaels, we couldn’t seem to find anything close to what resembled what our grandfather had created for us, and given us so many great memories. We decided that it couldn’t be that hard to build our own?
First let me say, neither of us is a carpenter, or experienced wood worker, and we have no experience building furniture. She is a nurse, and I am a software engineer, but we were determined that it couldn’t be that hard. We sat down and drew out on a piece of paper a basic layout for what we wanted our Barbie Doll House to look like. We then measured a few Barbie Dolls to get an idea of how large each room would need to be. We also had a plan for what types of rooms we needed based on the type of furniture we wanted to add to the doll house.
We then set off to Home Depot, selected the wood, and had them cut all of the pieces so we could just assemble the parts. I believe it was approximately $1.00 per cut, but over all we spent less then $70.00 building the entire thing.
I am sure there are other people out there in the same boat as we were in, so we thought we would share our experience, plans, measurements, and photos with others looking to create a wonderful gift for their kids. My niece (4 years old) smiled from ear to ear for a week when she received this last Christmas, and now a year later she still plays with it every day.
I already mentioned we are not professional woodworkers, well it should also be said, we are not architects, or “How To” book professionals either. The directions contained in this document may not be exactly perfect, nor the drawings exactly to scale. We tried to include as much information as possible, and still present it in an intuitive, easy to understand approach. Feel free to modify or move from the plan as needed.
With that said, you may be asking then why are we even charging for this material? Well, we did spend allot of time trying to put this kit together for you, so that is why we are charging the nominal 6.99 fee which is extremely inexpensive compared to other kits we found on the internet. Plus it costs money to list on EBAY, and Accept money via Paypal. We would also value your input to make this document better. If you have any changes you would like to submit, or have ideas on how to communicate something better, please let us know. We will make the changes to the document and resend you the most current release.

Step 3 Once we receive the PAYPAL confirmation of your payment you should receive an automatic email with a link to a website where you can download the plans, save to your computer, or print whatever your choice.
