When this Spartan was played in a local Toronto big band, the other musicians said to turn down the volume on the amp. As you can see there is no pickup on this blond 61 year old beauty. I bought this New York-built Epiphone from Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. It was part of Garry Tallent's guitar collection. Garry, of course, is Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band's long-time bassist who is known for acquiring some mighty fine instruments over the years. This guitar comes with documentation: a personally hand-signed certificate from Gruhn Guitars with pics of the front and back and the serial number, 56059 and my bill of sale from Gruhn Guitars. The playing action, tone quality and volume on this 1947 Spartan is exceptional. All solid woods of course with hand-carved maple back and sides and a hand-carved top. No case.
